Leaving the EU

On 31st January the UK left the EU.

We now move on to being in transition. Usually when I hear that phrase it’s because I’m watching a triathalon, so it suggests a scramble to swap from one set of shoes to the next. Chaos.

For now any orders going to the EU are treated exactly as before. As a business we still need to charge VAT (value added tax) on your order. Orders don’t need customs declarations and there should be no additional charges made when your order reaches you.

Unless something unexpected happens that’s how things will stay until the end of December this year. After that we don’t know how things will work. One thing that concerns me is that small businesses like ours tend to get ignored when plans are bring put in place. I’d be prepared to bet that there’s very little idea about how many small businesses export to the EU and how big a part of their business this is. So for now all I can say is that when we know more we’ll let you know.
